The film is a dark and twisted exploration of love, friendship, and obsession, as Julien and Sophie push each other to the limits of their sanity and morality. The game of dares becomes their way of expressing their feelings for each other, as well as their escape from the harsh realities of their lives. The film is full of humor, drama, and suspense, as the audience wonders what will be the next dare and how far will they go. The film also features a captivating soundtrack by Philippe Rombi, which includes songs by Jacques Brel, Edith Piaf, Serge Gainsbourg, and Charles Aznavour.
The film received mixed reviews from critics, who praised the performances of Canet and Cotillard, but criticized the plot for being unrealistic, implausible, and depressing. The film was a box office success in France, where it grossed over $6 million, but it failed to attract a large audience in other countries. The film has a cult following among fans of French cinema and romantic films, who appreciate its originality, style, and emotion. The film was nominated for three César Awards in 2004: Best First Feature Film for Samuell, Most Promising Actor for Canet, and Most Promising Actress for Cotillard.
